Frequently Asked Questions

Please use the tabs below to select the FAQ section that you’re after…

  • How much is video conversion? Please refer to the Application Form (which also includes prices) on our Video Conversion page.
  • Can I drop off my video tapes? As we do not run a storefront, we prefer that you use our mail-in system. While we used to offer a drop-off service, we experienced a large number of no-shows which proved an inconvenience for our staff, particularly when waiting back for customers after-hours. For deliveries, we have a secure GPO box in Brisbane CBD and since we started offering conversion services in 2002, the postal system has not lost or misplaced any tape sent in to us. For added security, you may wish to register your mail, or use a track & trace system such as Registered Post or Australian Air Express (AAE can courier to PO boxes).
  • What if I have lots of tapes – can I drop them off? If you have more than 10 tapes, an in-person drop-off may be available. Please contact us for further information.
  • Do you have an express service? Yes we do – please refer to the Application Form (on our Video Conversion page) for pricing and timeframes.
  • What tape formats can you convert to DVD? Quite a few, actually – please refer to our Tape Identification Factsheet (on our Video Conversion page) for more information.
  • Can you do custom edits? Yes we can – please refer to the Application Form (on our Video Conversion page) for pricing.
  • Can you convert to unique formats? We can convert to a number of digital formats – including .AVI, .MOV, iPod, .FLV and other common web formats.
  • Can you convert store-bought tapes? According to current copyright laws (at the time of writing), you are allowed to make one copy for your own backup purposes, if (and only if) you own the original video tape. However, should the video tape employ its own copy protection system (e.g. Macrovision), then our system will physically be unable to make a copy.
  • Can you convert recorded TV shows? If you, a friend or a family member appeared on the TV show (eg. a news story or a gameshow) and you already have the footage on tape, then yes.
  • How can I change my email password or add new email addresses? Log into your Console (as per the original setup email provided upon signup) to make these types of changes. If you need this email resent to you, please contact us.
  • What is the home directory used for storing public web files? /httpdocs/
  • What systems and languages do you support? MySQL, PHP & CGI – just to name a few!
  • What types of formats can you convert? We can convert tape to CD, tape to MP3, tape to WAV, CD to CD, CD to MP3, CD to WAV… you name it! Please refer to the Application Form (which also includes prices) on our Audio Conversion page.
  • Can you convert vinyl records to CD or MP3? Not at this stage – but please let us know if you’d like us to – because we’re thinking of introducing this soon!
  • What kinds of music can you mix or edit? We’ve done all kinds of things for our clients – including speeding songs up, slowing songs down, repeating verses / choruses, removing vulgar language, cutting songs early, extending songs, mixing songs together, enhancing the sound & volume, creating mixes for dance troupes & eisteddfod groups, etc.
  • Are you available for after-hours mixing? Yes! Some of our dance teachers, eisteddfod coordinators and aerobics instructors come straight after class – sometimes at 8, 9 even 10pm – weekdays or weekends. So yes, we are available after hours for audio mixing services. Please note that minimum charges and increased rates apply for sessions beyond 9pm.
  • Why do you only hire to existing clients? We used to provide hire services to anyone, but we found that gear was getting damaged or lost – and some gear never came back. As a result, we now only hire to existing clients or where our crew are present at the event.
  • I’m not in this category – who do you recommend hiring gear from them? For general party hire, we recommend BJ’s Sound & Lighting in Fortitude Valley. For professional comms, we recommend Bearcom / TR Corporation in Fortitude Valley. For video equipment, we recommend VideoData in West End.
  • What kind of ticketing services do you provide? We can provide ticket printing services. For more details, please see our Event Ticketing section.
